A Boost of Healthy Energy

Image
Today I want to share 2 recipes I came up with recently that provide a boost of energy and only have 4 ingredients! Although getting up early comes easy to me, I do like my caffeine when I roll out of bed, so I experimented with combining my morning latte with my breakfast and loved the result: Coffee Protein Shake - packed with plant based protein, potassium, and very little sugar. The second recipe came about, since I started working from home. I am definitely not the most disciplined person when it comes to...um, anything...., so to keep myself from eating junk all day, I need to have healthy and quick snacks readily available. After getting inspired on Pinterest, I came up with my own version of Energy Bites. So here we go: For the Coffee Protein Shake, you can pretty much substitute for half of the ingredients that I use. I really like the Vega Protein & Greens  protein powder, since it is plant based and only has 2 grams of sugar per serving. Also...

Farmer's Market Inspired Summer Salad

Image
I've been meaning to check out my town's farmer's market for a while now - this past weekend I was able to. It's not the biggest in my area, but definitely one with the friendliest vendors. If you live in the area - come check it out: Highland Park, NJ - Fridays from 11a.m. - 5p.m. - June thru December. More info here:   Main Street Highland Park . Most of the stands were selling all types of plump and ripe tomatoes, but one caught my eye...German Heirloom Tomatoes...of course I had to get those! The star of this recipe in my opinion isn't even the choice of tomatoes, but rather the fresh herbs that I added. My favorite part of making this salad, was chopping up the basil and parsley - the entire kitchen was filled with the fragrance of fresh herbs! The original recipe calls for cooked, shredded ch...

Outdoor Yoga Activities

I am so excited to finally share my first official post with you all! I have been looking for a creative output for quite some time now and after several conversations with my sister - who is my biggest supporter and who sometimes (always) knows me better than I know myself - I began developing "a German on a Journey". Check out the "About" tab to find out more about me and this blog! Because it is the summer, I figured I want to share my favorite outdoor yoga activities that I have found here in New Jersey: 1. Yoga by Holly - At the Spa at Little River - Old Bridge, NJ This class is a real treat and one of my favorites to visit. Taught on Saturdays, outside in a little courtyard, in the back of a spa, this multi-level core yoga class is something I look forward to all week. Holly provides poses for all her yogis, depending on the level of their own practice. Because it is a more intimate setting in a smaller group, we sometimes get to play around...
